By the Blood and By the Word
[Verse 1] I saw a sign in the sky above, A woman crowned with the stars of love, Clothed in sunlight, standing strong, With the moon beneath where her feet belong. In birth pains, crying out in fear, Yet a greater hope was drawing near, For a child was promised, born to reign, To break the serpent’s power and chain. [Chorus] We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, By the word of our testimony we stand, We will not fear what the dragon may say, For our lives belong to Jesus anyway. We overcome by the blood and the Word, Every lie of the accuser is turned, Heaven’s song is our battle cry: “Salvation, power, and glory to Christ on high.” [Verse 2] Then war broke out in the heights unseen, Michael rose with his angelic team, The dragon fought with all his might, But the darkness shattered in heaven’s light. That ancient serpent, thrown to earth, The one who’s lied since the garden’s birth, No more place in the courts above, For the King has spoken judgment in love. [Chorus] We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, By the word of our testimony we stand, We will not fear what the dragon may say, For our lives belong to Jesus anyway. We overcome by the blood and the Word, Every lie of the accuser is turned, Heaven’s song is our battle cry: “Salvation, power, and glory to Christ on high.” [Bridge] Though the dragon rages, his time is short, We have a higher, unshaken court, When he reminds us of all our sin, We point to the cross where our lives begin. We will not love our own lives to death, We’ll carry His name with every breath, For the Lamb who was slain is our victory, And His story is our testimony. [Verse 3] She runs away to a desert land, Yet she’s carried there by the Father’s hand, Given wings so she will not fall, Hidden safe from the serpent’s call. The river roars from the dragon’s mouth, But the earth opens up in a holy drought, And the remnant stands in the fiercest storm, Keeping God’s Word and bearing His form. [Chorus (final, extended)] We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, By the word of our testimony we stand, We will not fear what the dragon may say, For our lives belong to Jesus anyway. We overcome by the blood and the Word, Every promise of Heaven confirmed, Heaven’s song is our battle cry: “Salvation, power, and glory to Christ on high.” We overcome, we lift up His Name, All honor and praise to the Lamb who was slain.
