I have friends who have spoken to me about their experiences with depression and how difficult it can make everyday life. and for those simply stuck in a rut. This piece is simply my interpretation of the place they sometimes find themselves in. [Intro – fingerpicked acoustic guitar, very slow, long pauses] [Verse 1] Morning light through the window Dust turning slow in the air The kettle hums like it knows me Nothing moving anywhere A calendar still pretending Next week might finally choose A day that feels like movement Not trapped with these same views [Chorus] So I wait Like I always do For a moment Or a better view But deep inside I know the truth I'm standing in The queue that never moves [Verse 2] The years line up in silence Coats hanging on the wall Every promise of tomorrow Feels smaller than before I hold the door half open But never step outside Another chance before me I watch it slowly slide [Chorus] So I wait Like I always do For a moment Or a better view But deep inside I know the truth I'm standing in The queue that never moves [Bridge] Maybe the queue Was moving just fine An open door Was never mine [Pause] [Final Chorus] So I wait Like I always do For tomorrow Or something new But deep inside I know the truth I'm standing in The queue that never moves [Outro] Someone laughs in the hallway Someone closes a door A life keeps passing softly Leaving dust footprints on the floor The evening wind Moves where it chooses Still I stand In the queue that never moves
