(Sparse slow piano) Verse 1 Sun slips low on the range’s edge Shadows stretch where the spinifex spreads Gum-tree tops glow gold and red Quiet falls where the trails have led No bright city lights to blind the eye Just stars start peekin’ in the wide blue sky You can hear the breeze move soft and slow Where the old hills stand and the rivers flow Pre-Chorus Don’t try to stop the sun from sinkin’ down Don’t try to hold the days that turn around Every sunset brings a brand-new dawn — Queensland heart, keep movin’ on Chorus Dusk on the range — gold and red and grey! Day is done, but the memories stay! Dusk on the range — stars begin to shine! Queensland soul, yours and mine! Dusk on the range — gold and red and grey! Day is done, but the memories stay! Dusk on the range — stars begin to shine! Queensland soul, yours and mine! Verse 2 Stockmen head for the camp-fire glow Pack their gear where the tall grasses grow They’ve ridden far through the heat and dust Known the hard days and the trust They watch the sky turn deep indigo Listen close where the night winds blow Know tomorrow the sun will rise again Bring new light to the red-dirt plain Pre-Chorus Don’t try to stop the sun from sinkin’ down Don’t try to hold the days that turn around Every sunset brings a brand-new dawn — Queensland heart, keep movin’ on Chorus Dusk on the range — gold and red and grey! Day is done, but the memories stay! Dusk on the range — stars begin to shine! Queensland soul, yours and mine! Dusk on the range — gold and red and grey! Day is done, but the memories stay! Dusk on the range — stars begin to shine! Queensland soul, yours and mine! Bridge The years roll on like the river’s flow Friends come in and some must go But the range stands tall ‘neath the starry dome — Always there, like a steady home Final Chorus (softer, fading piano) Dusk on the range — gold and red and grey! Day is done, but the memories stay! Dusk on the range — stars begin to shine! Queensland soul, yours and mine! (Fade: quiet piano + soft night-cricket hum)
