She came to town with starlight in her eyes A suitcase full of hope and small-town lies The billboards promised fortune, fame, and gold But dreams turn cold on these streets, I'm told Hollywood lights can blind you to the truth They promise fame but steal away your youth On Broken Dreams Boulevard tonight Where angels fall from neon height The city takes what you hold dear And leaves you drowning in your tears There's a boy who plays guitar on Sunset Strip His fingers bleed, but he won't lose his grip He sings of love to strangers passing by While traffic drowns his lonely lullaby Hollywood lights can blind you to the truth They promise fame but steal away your youth On Broken Dreams Boulevard tonight Where angels fall from neon height The city takes what you hold dear And leaves you drowning in your tears An aging actor serves me coffee black He almost made it once, but can't go back His headshots yellow in a drawer somewhere While time moves on without a prayer Some dreams don't die, they just learn to hide In corners of the heart we keep inside From my stage I watch them come and go These broken souls who loved and lost their glow Hollywood lights can blind you to the truth They promise fame but steal away your youth On Broken Dreams Boulevard tonight Where angels fall from neon height But still they come with hearts so bright To dance beneath the city lights
