You left your coat by the bedroom door, like you were comin’ back for more. Phone don’t ring, but I check it still, man, silence knows just how to kill. I keep tellin’ myself I’m fine, then your shadow walks through my mind. When you’re not here, this room gets way too loud. When you’re not here, I lose myself in the crowd. Yeah, I act like I don’t give a damn, but baby, that ain’t who I am. When you’re not here... I disappear. I hit the street just after two, every damn face turns into you. Buy one drink, let another go, tell everybody I’m cool, y’know. But every cab that passes by makes me look up — don’t ask me why. Maybe pride’s just a cheap disguise, for somebody scared to say goodbye. When you’re not here, this room gets way too loud. When you’re not here, I lose myself in the crowd. Yeah, I talk like I’m bulletproof, but every lie keeps leadin’ to you. When you’re not here... I disappear. Maybe I don’t need saving, maybe I just need truth. Maybe all this brave behaviour is me tryin’ not to need you. And that’s the bit that hurts. When you’re not here, the whole damn city fades. When you’re not here, even daylight feels like rain. I can run, I can stay out late, I can swear I’m done with yesterday— but when you’re not here, when you’re not here... I ain’t quite me.
