Memories, from the next life

[Verse 1 — Him] We were friends for so many years, Sharing stories, dreams and fears, Then those phone calls started running through the night. Neither one would say goodbye, Maybe love was there the whole damn time, Waiting on one kiss to bring it all to life. [Verse 2 — Her] We had lives waiting back at home, But somehow we both felt alone, And I found something in your arms I couldn't hide. We knew forever wasn't ours, So we counted minutes instead of hours, And built a little world where we could come alive. [Pre-Chorus — Together] We knew someday the road might end, But we'd do it all again... [Chorus — Together] We could've waited for the next life, For the perfect place and the perfect time, But we found forever on those Friday nights, Fogging up the windows in that little Bluee ride. We stole our moments, we borrowed our time, We knew it couldn't last, but God, we were alive. Maybe forever wasn't ours this time— So we didn't wait for the next life, we loved in this life. [Verse 3 — Him] Then you looked at me one afternoon, and said, “I love you,” like you always knew and like a fool I smiled and I said, “Me too.” That little face you made stopped the room, You said, “Me too?” and I laughed with you. Then you pulled me close to you and whispered, “Princess, I love you too.” There was that camper by the lake, Our little world, our sweet escape, Laughing like the whole damn world could wait. No clocks, no questions, nowhere to be, For a little while just you and me, Hiding from the world and tempting fate. And remember riding high in the 250? You drank too much that night... [Him — laughing] Maybe just a little too much. [Her] Oh, a little? You couldn't drive, so I took the keys, shook my head and drove you home. [Him] And I just sat there next to my Princess... [Her] For once, your Princess had to save the Dragon. [Him] Yeah... she did. [Together] Another crazy little story that was ours alone. [Verse 5 — Together] Then Tennessee and Christmas lights, Those precious days, those magic nights, Waking up with you right by my side. For one sweet morning we didn't have to run, Didn't have to hide from anyone, And everything that shouldn't be somehow felt right. [Bridge — Him] I was your Dragon, and you were my Princess, And somewhere along the way those names became us. I'd wrap my wings around you when your world became too much, And somehow all my fire disappeared beneath your touch. [Her] My Dragon... [Him] My Princess... [Together] In a world that belonged only to us. [Verse 6 — Him] Then trouble finally found our door, And we couldn't hide from life anymore. Our eternal year somehow reached its end. You went back home, I carried on, But love like that is never really gone, It becomes a place your heart goes back to now and then. [Breakdown — Him] My fingers still remember your skin, My lips remember where they've been, And sometimes I close my eyes and Bluee is there again. The lake. The camper. That 250. You taking my keys away. Tennessee. Christmas morning. You beside me. Those Friday nights. And that face... [Her — softly] “Me too?” [Him — laughing softly] Yeah... That face. [Him] I love you too. [Final Chorus — Together] We could've waited for the next life, But I'm grateful that we didn't waste this one. For one eternal year beneath a borrowed sky, My Princess and her Dragon found the sun. No regrets for the moments we stole, No regrets for giving you my soul. Some stories end, but love survives somewhere beyond goodbye. We could've waited for another world, Another place, another perfect time, But I'd rather have one year of you than spend forever wondering why. [Her] So what happens to the Dragon now? [Him] He lets his Princess live her life. [Her] And does he forget her? [Him] Never. [Outro — Him] The Dragon will keep looking around, Somewhere beyond this little town. Not chasing you, not asking you to turn around... Just watching the horizon like Dragons sometimes do, in case somewhere, someday, my Princess needs me too. And if our story has another page to write, I'll find you... [Her — softly] Where? [Him] Maybe in the next life. [Her] Maybe in the next life... [Him] And if I find you there, I'll know exactly what to say. [Her] “I love you?” [Him — teasing] Me too. [Her — laughing] “Me too?!” [Him — laughing] I love you too, Princess. [Together — softly] Maybe in the next life... [Him — fading] My Princess... [Her] My Dragon... [Together] Maybe in the next life.
