The Knight of the Windmills

V5.5

[INTRO] In a village baked by the Spanish sun, Lived a hidalgo poorer than none. He read every knightly tale he could find, Till the books rode away with his mind. [VERSE 1] Alfonso Quijano closed the last page, Declared himself a hero and a sage. He grabbed rusty armor, battered and old, And dreams worth much more than gold. A skinny old horse with a wobbling stride, Rosinante was ready to ride. “Justice awaits!” cried the man with delight, “I shall conquer the darkness tonight!” [PRE-CHORUS] The neighbors laughed, The children stared, But Quijote didn’t care. [CHORUS] Oh, Don Quijote, ride, ride, ride! Chasing giants through the countryside. Windmills turning in the sky, Swing your lance and never ask why! Oh, Don Quijote, brave and bright! Fighting wrongs with all your might. The world says “madman!” You say “knight!” And charge into the light! [VERSE 2] Then along came Sancho Panza one day, A clever farmer easy to sway. He said, “My lord, this sounds absurd…” But followed every ridiculous word. He dreamed of riches, islands and fame, Though trouble followed every game. One saw castles, magic and lore, The other saw taverns and nothing more. [PRE-CHORUS] One was a dreamer, One was wise, Looking through different eyes. [BRIDGE] A flock of sheep became fierce dwarves, A dusty inn became royal halls. A peasant girl became a queen, The fairest lady ever seen. “Dulcinea!” he would proudly cry, “My love beneath the endless sky!” Sancho whispered, “She’s not quite that…” But kept those thoughts beneath his hat. And when she failed to smell divine, Or sparkle like a royal sign, They blamed a curse, a wicked scheme: “She’s enchanted!” cried the dream. [BREAKDOWN] Hey! Ho! Ride through the dust and go! Hey! Ho! Where the wild ideals blow! [FINAL CHORUS] Oh, Don Quijote, ride, ride, ride! Chasing giants through the countryside. Though the world may laugh and stare, You keep finding wonder there. Oh, Don Quijote, brave and true! Sancho riding next to you. A realist and an idealist too, Seeing one world from two points of view. [OUTRO] So here’s to dreamers, strange but kind, Who see more than the average mind. And here’s to friends who keep them straight, Together they challenge fate. Rosinante fades from sight, Beneath the stars of Spanish night. The knight rides on, the story grows, Where truth ends and imagination goes.
