THE GODS BEFORE HEAVEN [Intro: distant ritual choir, low horns, slow floor toms] Before the first cathedral Before the first prayer rose Before men carved their answers Into tablets made of stone Before heaven had a name We were already there [Verse 1: low clean vocal, restrained heavy guitars] Solvar lit the empty dark And taught the stars to burn Vaelune pulled the tides from silence And watched the first world turn Morvane waited underneath it Patient as the grave While Aestra hung her final lantern For the ones the dark would take Kaelor raised a blood-red standard Before there were kings to kneel And Serathiel carved the first law Into something gods could feel [Pre-Chorus: drums building] You call us myths now You call us names But I remember voices I remember faces [Chorus: massive melodic metalcore] WE WERE THE GODS BEFORE HEAVEN Before your saints Before your temples Before you learned to beg the sky For mercy when the daylight died We walked beneath the newborn stars We wore creation like our scars BEFORE HEAVEN HAD A NAME We were already there [Verse 2: heavier rhythm, atmospheric choir] Orun counted every heartbeat Long before clocks learned to speak Velkara split the infant heavens Just to hear the thunder scream Nythra slept beyond the borders Where the first light couldn't reach Dreaming things we never named Because some truths should never breathe And I stood there among them Black wolf underneath the flame Ten gods carried into history Ten remembered names [Pre-Chorus 2: lower, darker] Ten names remain in scripture Ten stories still survive Funny I remember eleven voices Standing there that night [Chorus] WE WERE THE GODS BEFORE HEAVEN Before your saints Before your temples Before you learned to beg the sky For mercy when the daylight died We walked beneath the newborn stars We wore creation like our scars BEFORE HEAVEN HAD A NAME We were already there [Bridge: clean guitar, distant choir] We weren't better We weren't wiser We were simply first And being first Doesn't make you holy It only means You had longer to become worse I watched gods become kings Kings become tyrants Tyrants become statues Statues become dust And somehow The prayers remained [Breakdown: crushing half-time] [Harsh vocal] NO HALOS NO PEARL-WHITE GATES NO BOOK OF NAMES NO CHOSEN FAITH WE HAD BLOOD WE HAD TEETH WE HAD WAR BENEATH OUR FEET [Gang vocals] TEN NAMES REMAIN [Harsh vocal] BUT I REMEMBER MORE [Gang vocals] TEN NAMES REMAIN [Harsh vocal] SO WHO STOOD AT THE ELEVENTH DOOR? [Final Chorus: enormous choir] WE WERE THE GODS BEFORE HEAVEN Before your saints Before your temples Before the world divided light From everything it feared at night Solvar burned Vaelune dreamed Morvane waited Aestra gleamed Kaelor bled Serathiel judged Nythra watched Orun counted Velkara split the sky apart And I stood among them BEFORE HEAVEN HAD A NAME We were already there [Outro: instruments fading into ancient wind] [Low clean vocal] You built temples over our ruins Changed our faces Changed our names Ten survived inside your stories [Pause] But I remember eleven. [Whisper] We were never only ten.
