[Breathy | Intimate | Female Alto/Mezzo] [Close-Mic | Spoken Narration | Restrained Emotion] [Gradual Shift | Clear Melody | Elongated Vowels] [Selective Double-Track | Secondary Voice | Cleaner] [Secondary Voice | Increasing Authority | Lead Overtake] [Sparse Melody | Three-Note | Minor] [Index-Chime Motif | Unresolved | Clinical] [Vocal Melody | Shared Intervals | Motif-Anchored] [Identity Change | Motif Mutation | One Note] [Progressive Mutation | Increasingly Natural | Subtle] [Ending | Original Theme | Near-Restored] [Final Motif | Slightly Altered | Unresolved] [Avoid Vocal Stutter] [Liminal Darkwave, Female Narration, "Mutating Index Motif"] [Vocal: Dual-Track Every Second Repeat] [Intro: Narrow Atrium + Index Chime] The carpet stops at a metal return slot. A cream card slides out, face down. [index chime repeats, second note slightly lower] I know my name by the way my hand turns it. The letters are right. The hand isn't. (Is this mine?) [Verse 1: Close Narration + Uneven Pulse] It says I arrived in a yellow raincoat. Mine is gray. It says my hair reaches my waist. I cut it at my chin. [uneven pulse briefly drops away] At the bottom, under IDENTIFY: SHE WILL DENY THE COAT. (index chime returns, one note missing) (I never owned one.) [Narration Lifts Into Melody] The name fits. I don't. The name fits. I don't. Read it first, then watch me follow. The name fits. I don't. [melody narrows back into narration] (Which one am I?) [Verse 2: Cabinet Clicks + Motif Displaced] A filing drawer releases by itself. Inside, another card reads: SHE TOUCHES THE RED TAB. [cabinet clicks stop] I hold my hands against my coat. My fingers move before I choose. [pulse resumes beneath the voice] The tab is warm. (I said no.) The drawer rolls farther than the wall permits. [room tone widens beyond the drawer] Fluorescent panels continue inside it, one after another, over a room folded sideways. [index motif plays from inside the opening] (Don't make me look.) [Verse 3: Distant Piano + Widening Space] A yellow raincoat stands behind a desk, filled out by nothing. [distant piano enters, single incomplete figure] A paper strip hangs where its face should be. My chin-length hair is stapled to the bottom. The viewer beside it wakes. [electrical tone rises, piano cuts out] One sentence trembles across the glass: WHEN THE CLAIMANT IS ABSENT, ASSEMBLE FROM AVAILABLE RECORDS. (Absent from where?) [mechanical pulse begins beneath narration] The machine stamps another card. VOICE: ACCEPTED. [voice double arrives slightly before the lead] It speaks the words in my mouth before I can shape them. [Verse 4: Percussion Withdraws + Voice Doubles] The cards keep coming. Hair. Coat. Voice. [index motif changes one note] My cuff turns yellow. I pull it back. The lining is yellow too. (That wasn't there.) Something touches my hair. [all percussion withdraws] It reaches past my shoulders now. I don't remember it growing. [Narration Lifts Into Melody] The name fits. I do now. The name fits. I do now. [second vocal gradually becomes clearer than the lead] Read it first, then watch me follow. The name fits... I do now. (index chime answers from farther away) (Is that better?) [Verse 5: Near Silence + Final Record] The final drawer contains no room. [environment collapses to narrow room tone] Only a card held upright in the slot. ORIGINAL CLAIMANT: NOT RETURNED. WORKING COPY: RELEASED. [index motif stops before its final note] Every place I remember is typed along its ruled lines. The tiled kitchen. The blue glass bowl. The song used for fever. [piano returns, playing the missing motif note] I try to remember something that isn't written there. Nothing comes. (Return what?) My voice comes from the cabinet: PLEASE RETURN ALL BORROWED MATERIAL. [voice double remains after the lead disappears] [Outro: Opening Texture Restored] The yellow leaves my sleeve. My hair lifts from my back. [index chime slowly returns to its opening pattern] The final card turns face down and draws itself into the metal slot. [room tone contracts to the opening atrium] The carpet stops where the cabinets begin. A cream card slides out, face down. I know my name by the way my hand turns it. [index chime repeats exactly as the intro] The letters are right. The hand isn't. (Is this mine?) [Fade to End]
