Sarah's House (Jul 30 @ 12:58 PM)
[Verse 1] [solo baritone female vocals] From where I stand they seem to have more And still the floorboards claim them all the same How Sarah's house was so nice Always puzzled me [Verse 2] Sarah walked barefoot in the house she shared with her mom And her sister, even on the day they took her sister away The laundry hung out in the back The heat wasn't on There were mostly only beds and even their mattresses were not stained And a few old chairs The wooden floor was clean and painted white White sheets on the windows But it always looked clean [Chorus] Sarah's house was clean There was no food in the refrigerator Almost devoid of signs of life Barely dishes in the cupboard But they always looked clean In Sarah's house, even in the presence of death Sarah's house looked clean [Verse 3] The sun never shines on the laundry hanging In the winter outside Sarah's house The house told nothing of the secrets going on in Sarah's house Nothing a white coat of paint couldn't tone down [Verse 4] Sarah's mom was arrested yet again Mine at least stayed out of jail But their house was always so clean So respectably clean And I couldn't help but admire Sarah's house Sarah's house [Verse 5] Sarah has a server in the room beside the bed She is building websites to keep a roof over her family's head The ghost of her sister is blue In the room she doesn't go there The bare lightbulb is blown And she walks across the kitchen barefoot on the white painted floor Of the unheated house [Verse 6] Sometimes the pipes break in winter But the landlord always fixes it There's no unfriendly exchanges and the rent is always on time She still lives there, I think she still lives there In that house without hot water yet it still stays clean [Outro] There are no goodbyes in Sarah's house The living room and living ghost of her mother Came home and then passed through And without many words she became a memory in the floor Ghost never stain the floorboards of Sarah's house Their blue lips never stain the floorboards blue Chlorine doesn't make ghosts go away And the frail sleeping demons wistfully remembering How it might have felt living in Sarah's house I tear up just a little thinking about the ghost living inside The painted floorboards of Sarah's house
