What Wouldn’t Jesus Do?

[Verse 1] You put the bracelet on my wrist, Four letters pressed into my skin. Said, “When you don’t know what is right, Just ask yourself what He would’ve done then.” You taught me blessed are the peacemakers, The meek and merciful were strong. He fed the poor and loved the stranger, Made the outcast feel they belonged. You taught me power looked like service, Truth was something you stood beside. That Jesus chose the ones denied, And love was how they’d know His side. [Pre-Chorus] Turns out I listened closer than you wanted. Kept the lesson even when I left the pew. You handed me the measuring stick, preacher. I’m just holding it against the things you do. [Chorus] What wouldn’t Jesus do? Funny, I still have the bracelet. You taught me love the foreigner— Now there’s ICE outside the sacred. You taught me never worship power, Now you swear your king was sent by God. He washed the feet of people beneath Him. Yours wants everybody at his feet to applaud. You gave me four letters for a compass. Turns out they still point true. I know exactly what Jesus stood for. That’s how I know What He wouldn’t do. [Verse 2] You warned me money makes a master, Pride can turn a man into an idol. Now the rich get richer while the hungry Get another sermon on survival. You taught me truth could stand inspection, That mercy mattered more than being right. Now cruelty gets dressed up as conviction And somehow spite looks holy under stage lights. [Pre-Chorus] I didn’t move the goalposts, disciple. I’m standing where you told me truth should stand. If the Sermon on the Mount sounds too progressive, Maybe take that grievance up with the man. [Bridge] He touched the ones you wouldn’t touch. Broke bread with people you condemn. Had some famously strong opinions About rich men getting into heaven. He flipped the tables, not the scripture. Never needed Caesar on His side. You keep saying, “Jesus, Jesus,” Like repeating it makes anything Christ-like. I didn’t lose the lesson. That’s the inconvenient truth. You taught me, “Try to live like Jesus.” Hell, I’m trying. Are you? [Final Chorus] What wouldn’t Jesus do? Funny, I still have the bracelet. You taught me love the foreigner— Now there’s ICE outside the sacred. You taught me never worship power, Now you swear your king was sent by God. He washed the feet of people beneath Him. Yours wants everybody at his feet to applaud. You gave me four letters for a compass. Turns out they still point true. I know exactly what Jesus stood for. That’s how I know What He wouldn’t do.
