The Best Part of New England

I'll never forget that silly grin, His eyes dancing playfully. As long as I'm right here with him, Life is everything I want it to be. We'd traveled miles through autumn leaves, With colors everywhere. But nothing in that countryside Could match the love we share. I asked him what he was thinking, He smiled and looked at me. "Well, it's not what you're thinking!" He teased so playfully. Then he told me he was grateful For the life we get to share. All the things we'd seen together, And the joy of being there. The mountains wore their finest colors, The sunshine made them glow. We found a thousand beautiful sights Along those winding roads. But of all the things I'll treasure, And the memories I'll keep, The best part of New England Was having him there with me. We chased the leaves through winding roads, Found lighthouses by the sea. Sometimes our plans would change a bit,, But that's how adventures ought to be! Every day brought something new, Another place to roam. But wherever we were going, With him by my side, I'm home. We're home now from New England, Those autumn roads are far away. But there he sits with that silly grin, Just like he did that day. Again I ask, “What are you thinking?” He says, “I really love you.” “I appreciate all you do for me,” And I know he means it, too. I take care of the things he doesn't, He does the things I don't. We each bring something different, And neither has to do it alone. It's not about who's doing more, Or keeping any score. We both feel blessed to share this life— Who could ask for more? The mountains wore their finest colors, The sunshine made them glow. We found a thousand beautiful sights Along those winding roads. But the best part of New England Wasn't something we could see. It was knowing that the man I love Was just as glad to be with me. And now we're home, the leaves are gone, But one thing's still the same— He looks at me with that silly grin, And I fall in love all over again.
