Midnight on the shoreline Fire against the black Waves were rolling low behind us No turning back I was just a boy with The salt wind in my hair Heard somebody say Jesus loves you And I felt Him there I bowed my head beneath that moon Knees down in the sand Asked the Lord to save my soul And hold me in His hand The flames threw shadows on the water Bright against the night And I walked away believing I had found the Light But salvation is more than words Beneath a midnight sky More than raising up a hand And saying Lord You’re mine He didn’t only call me out Of darkness and the grave He called me to surrender Every part He came to save Not just Savior when I’m broken Not just mercy when I fall He must be my Lord forever He must have it all I grew into a man who wore A Sunday kind of smile Talked about the Good Book Walked a respectable mile People saw the polished boots The Bible by the bed But they never heard the darkness Of the things inside my head Anger in the silence Lust behind a locked door Half truths told so often That they didn’t hurt no more I called myself a Christian But I lived a double life I praised Him with my lips While I was cutting with a knife Salvation is more than words Beneath a midnight sky More than raising up a hand And saying Lord You’re mine He didn’t only call me out Of darkness and the grave He called me to surrender Every part He came to save Not just Savior when I’m broken Not just mercy when I fall He must be my Lord forever He must have it all Then the truth came crashing through The house I said I loved No sermon could have hit me Like the judgment from above She looked me in the eyes And every mask came undone Said I want a divorce And I knew what I had done The room went cold around me Every lie was standing clear All the things I kept concealed Were suddenly right there I fell down on my knees Where no more hiding could remain And through the tears I cried Lord Jesus take my life again I surrender my anger I surrender my shame I surrender my secrets Every idol every chain I surrender my marriage My pride and all my plans Make me what You called me Lord remake this broken man I don’t want religion I don’t want a painted face I want to walk in truth I want to live inside Your grace Take the throne I kept from You Take the heart I would not give Jesus be my Lord now Teach me how to live And there upon the floor Beneath the wreckage of my name A burden left my shoulders Like smoke rising from a flame The chains did not all vanish And the road was still steep But peace came like a river Running somewhere wide and deep I knew that I was changed Not because I’d earned a thing But because the King of mercy Had become my Lord and King Now each morning I thank Him For the grace I don’t deserve And I ask for strength and courage Just to do His holy work Salvation is more than words Beneath a midnight sky More than raising up a hand And saying Lord You’re mine He found me in my brokenness And would not let me stay He took my heart of stone And showed me there’s a better way Now He’s Savior and He’s Master Now my life is in His call I surrendered at His mercy And I gave to Him my all Midnight on the shoreline Fire against the black Grace has brought me from the shadows And grace will bring me back I still pray for strength and wisdom Courage for each day Lord my life is Yours forever Show me how to walk Your way
