Turn up the speed Lightning in my veins Bolts in my eyes Tonight I’ll turn back the tide Roll back time like a sheet Go forward like pavement underneath Nothing can stop my speed Watch me if you can Don’t blink This heat will bring me to a flash point Power like Direct Current D C The clock on the tower strikes Lightning lit me up And this time I didn’t die I regained my powers and regenerated myself My cells are supercharged I’m the essence of speed If I could only go back in time Stop the event from happening Maybe I could spend more time with others I loved That weren’t as lucky as I was Didn’t get the bolt sent from the sky but instead made their way 6 feet deep Cremation incineration But I remember their warmth Thoughts of their love still hold me The last time I tried to stop their death Catastrophe happened So instead maybe I’ll just talk to myself Impart wisdom That shouldn’t ruin the timeline And it might prevent other bad things that have happened and then some So Lace up my shoes It’s time to go One two three I’ve made my way back to over a decade ago I see myself About to go on that route Where I injured myself And was on crutches for years This is an easy thing for me to fix I’ll just tell myself to stop before injury And when I do my past self looks back And even though I’m disguised He looks me in the eye and nods As if he knows it is me from the future As if my appearance before him isn’t odd When I make my way back through the time tunnel I immediately feel atrophied How can this be? I erased years of pain and regret The thing I wished would never come never did The big bad wolf never blew down the house I was given a chance to become strong instead Bewildered I see my super speed is gone as well And my family are not in my home I must have never met my wife and now I’m alone I rush to my counter where I store my diary Lucky for me I still wrote in it for myself to read However instead of years of gaining inner strength from coping from pain And gaining true strength that doesn’t decay A super power that no one else could take away And strengthening my faith in a God power that doesn’t fade I became lazy Threw it away Deserted my passion for speed Gave into things That were temporary And became weak And I never met a women that also had a similar injury which was key for us to become more than a fling Startled I knew I had to regain my super speed And lucky for me there was a lightning warning from the weather man from the T V So back to the roof with straps in a chair and a pole to attract what may certainly either destroy me or regain power What a bother Ok now I’m back This super speed cannot go to waste I must go to the future to see what else I can improve if given the chance today Lace up One two three This time I see myself I must have skipped ahead a little too far I want to turn around because I can’t bare the thought of where I am But I made it here So I must stay here Maybe it’s fate I see myself on a hospital bed I’m at least ninety years old Without a hair on my head And once again my other self looks at me in the eyes and isn’t surprised or bewildered He looks at me as if this isn’t the first time Then looks past me and mutters “It’s no use, all is vanity, a chasing after the wind” I lock eyes with him and shake my head Remember your footing Your strength within, I tell myself Don’t give up, the race you are in Is almost over Now is the time to keep the faith Keep your hope in Jesus even though it feels like the night the dawn will come with light Feel my hand My resolve will get you through this tide When you don’t believe I will for you Then my future self looks at me And tears well up in his eyes And he says something that catches me off guard that night “I forgive you, thank you” A wave feels like it hits me My future self forgiving me is something I didn’t know I needed I didn’t need to know what for or what of But it was like a key that I knew needed to be unlocked And forgiveness was to be shared with everyone in my heart Even myself Then I looked up and the comic book I was reading was at its last page My family was asleep and the sun had set for the day It was time for me to hit the hay I’ll hang my shoes For now at least No more meddling with the timeline I’ll stay in the present And focus on things that need attention instead of the past or future Use my superpowers to serve others Or maybe just sleep Goodnight present self Goodnight God Goodbye super speed I must go to the future to see what else I can improve if given the chance today I must have skipped ahead a little too far I want to turn around because I can’t bare the thought of where I am But I made it here So I must stay here Maybe it’s fate I see myself on a hospital bed I’m at least ninety years old Without a hair on my head And once again my other self looks at me in the eyes and isn’t surprised or bewildered He looks at me as if this isn’t the first time Then looks past me and mutters “It’s no use, all is vanity, a chasing after the wind” I lock eyes with him and shake my head Remember your footing Your strength within, I tell myself Don’t give up, the race you are in Is almost over Now is the time to keep the faith Keep your hope in Jesus even though it feels like the night the dawn will come with light Feel my hand My resolve will get you through this tide When you don’t believe I will for you Then my future self looks at me And tears well up in his eyes And he says something that catches me off guard that night “I forgive you, thank you” A wave feels like it hits me My future self forgiving me is something I didn’t know I needed I didn’t need to know what for or what of But it was like a key that I knew needed to be unlocked And forgiveness was to be shared with everyone in my heart Even myself Then I looked up and the comic book I was reading was at its last page My family was asleep and the sun had set for the day It was time for me to hit the hay I’ll hang my shoes For now at least No more meddling with the timeline I’ll stay in the present And focus on things that need attention instead of the past or future Use my superpowers to serve others Or maybe just sleep Goodnight present self Goodnight God Goodbye super speed
