The Lass Of Aughrim(Borrowing an image from James Joyce's "The Dead")

V5

(whisper-soft phrasing,slow-fading piano resonance, bowed strings with light pressure dim candlelight room) If you′ll be the lass of Aughrim as I'm taking you mean to be tell me the first token that passed between you and me. (Piano solo) Oh don"t you remember that bight on yon lean hill when we both met together which I′m sorry now to tell. (Instrumental) Oh the rain falls on my heavy locks and the dew wets my skin. My babe lies coold within my arms but none will let me in. (Instrumental) Oh the rain falls on my heavy locks and the dew wets my skin. My babe lies coold within my arms but none will let me in. (Murmuring is dominated by a raspy bass. A halting piano accompaniment and soprano vocalises fill the background.) “The sound of the rain subsides and turns silently into snow...” “Snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves.” “It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. Her soul swooned slowly as she heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.” (Instrumental: She scat sings along with the piano for two minutes.) My babe lies coold within my arms but none will let me in. Original lyrics: From Irish folk song Original text: Excerpt from "The Dead" by James Joyce 😍This song is a remix of "The Lass of Aughrim," inspired by James Joyce's short story "The Dead." I took a portion of Joyce's original text, changed the subject to a female, and inserted it at the end. It's terrifying! 😱 The famous Western director John Huston adapted Joyce's novel into a film. It's one of my favorite movies, and I'm basing this song on that image. It's the story of an Irish family one Christmas night. ♪ "Yes, this song is a Christmas song" is a stretch. The film and the original novel are both excellent, so if you're interested but haven't seen them yet, I highly recommend checking them out.🌹
