[VERSE 1] I been walkin’ miles in these worn-out shoes Dust on the road and the evening news Every step hums like a tired old tune Counting down hours till the sun drops soon [VERSE 2] Leather and laces been holdin’ me tight All day long in the hard daylight Dreamin’ of grass and a softer place Where the world slows down to a gentler pace [CHORUS] I wanna kick off these shoes and lay back in the green Feel the earth turn quiet underneath me Barefoot in a field where the sky runs wide Let the wind roll over like a slow tide No more roads, no more dues Just a man and the grass and a pair of old shoes [VERSE 3] There’s a freedom hid in the simple things In the hush that a summer evening brings Toes in the clover, eyes half closed All my worries loosen their heavy loads [BRIDGE] And I drift away where the days don’t race Where time moves soft and leaves no trace Every breath like a sweet old rhyme Slippin’ out of the grip of time [CHORUS] I wanna kick off these shoes and lay back in the green Feel the earth turn quiet underneath me Barefoot in a field where the sky runs wide Let the wind roll over like a slow tide No more roads, no more dues Just a man and the grass and a pair of old shoes [OUTRO] Yeah I’ll leave ‘em there by the edge of the day Let the tall grass carry my cares away Barefoot dreamin’ under open skies With my old shoes restin’ by my side
