[Spoken Word - The Storyteller] Well, hello. Are you here for another storyteller's tale? (chuckles) Come. Listen. [Verse 1 - The Lane] Children wander up the lane, Barefoot, hungry, in the rain. A lollipop, a ginger pain, A scent so sweet it hides the stain. They knock, knock, knock upon the door, Never knowing what's truly in store. [Pre-Chorus - The Door] Gumdrop shutters, licorice seams, Candy canes like crooked dreams. Sugar windows, buttered light, A house that smiles with too many teeth at night. [Chorus - The Witch] She's at the door with powdered face, No mirror old lady, all sugar and lace. “Oh sweets, my sweets, come taste the fun...” She whispers low, while the oven hums. A cackling witch, a hollow howl, A winged bat, a weirded owl. What stories there they may dwell, In my storyteller's tale. [Verse 2 - The Inside] Come in, come in, the table's spread, Jelly beans and gingerbread. Pains of gum that stick and bind, Drops that rot the teeth and mind. She strokes their hair with candied hands, And counts the crumbs where innocence stands. [Chorus - The Turn] She's at the door with powdered face, No mirror old lady, just hunger in lace. “Oh treats, my treats, such bittersweet...” Delicious children, such tender meat. A witch's screech, a witch's grin, The oven waits to take them in. What stories there they may dwell, In my storyteller's tale. [Bridge - Lullaby / Whispered] Hush now, little lollies, sleep so deep, On sheets of wafer, counted sheep. The walls are Lali, Lali ginger sweet, But Lali never lets you leave. (laughs, then whispers) I've been so lonely, so long unfed... [Final Verse - The Fire] Knock, knock, knock - now who's at the door? Not the children anymore. The house is empty, the sweets have turned, The candy black where the sugar burned. And if you wander up that lane, And taste that lollipop, that ginger pain... Don't knock. [Outro - Spoken Word] Well... Are you still hungry? (laughs)
