The poem is known as «Η Πορτοκαλένια» (The Orange-Girl / The Orange One) by Odysseas Elytis and appears in his early poetic work, most often associated with the collection Ήλιος ο Πρώτος. ------ translated lyrics: So deeply was she intoxicated by the juice of the sun that she bowed her head and agreed to become, little by little: the little Orange One. Just as the seven heavens gleamed sea-blue, just as crystal touched upon a fire, just as swallow-tails flashed with lightning, the angels above stood astonished and the girls below, the storks above stood astonished and the peacocks below, and all together they gathered, all together they saw her, and all together they called her: Orange One! The vine grows drunk and so does the scorpion, the whole world grows drunk, yet the sting of day does not permit the pain. The dwarf heron whispers her name among the worms, the beat of water speaks it within golden specks, even the dew upon the upper lip of the kindly north wind speaks it: “Rise, little one, little one, little Orange One! No one knows you as the kiss knows you. Nor does the smiling god know you, who with his open hand in the blazing glare shows you naked to the thirty-two winds.”
