(Intro) You know.... I never thought I'd get here to where I am today, I was a very depressed individual, very cynical..., and suicidal...., but now... I just give it to God.... And I know He'll help me through.... hmmmmmmmm.... (Verse 1) Yea..., man I was the worst, straight up, no lie, Never prayed unless it was for death to come my way, watch me die. Demons followed close, a darkness I embraced, Living life in the fast lane, at a dangerous pace. (Verse 2) Never thought I'd be the one, standing here so clear, In the church pew asking for forgiveness, year after year. Not just for my own soul, but for the ones I dragged, Through the mud and the mire, now I'm standing here higher, waving a truly tragic white flag. (Chorus) Used to beg for the darkness, for the pain to cease its hold, Never thought these weary bones, a different future could be bold. Now I'm on my knees, in this sacred space I've found, A church pew man, yeah, on solid, holy ground. This ain't no magic fix, the struggle's still real and steep, But this church pew life, is a promise I intend to keep. (Verse 3) Used to wander 'round aimlessly, lost in the night, Without a single spark of happiness, no guiding light. Day in and day out, just doubt in my chest, Felt like a broken record, never put to rest. (Verse 4) It's not like I didn't know God, heard the stories from old, Grew up with a church pew family, scriptures bold. Still I wandered aimlessly, a rebel without a cause, With drugs as my compass, ignoring all the flaws. Just trying to hide the ache, the emptiness inside, Running from the truth... (Verse 5) I was the biggest cynic you'd see, a master of disguise, Faking it everyday, just waiting for my demise. Everyday looking for my next hit, that temporary high, Never thought I'd ever want to quit...., Hell, that was the life at the time, twisted as it seems, Everything felt so right, living out my wicked dreams. And so wrong I know, the damage that I've done, But I'm just a man, flawed since day one. (Bridge) Now days I'm a church pew man, a different kind of stride, The past ain't erased, but now I've got a guide. Sure God is still working on me, chipping at the stone, But I'm only human, planting seeds that have grown. (Outro) Sure days I feel like Superman, ready to take flight, But that I ain't, still stumble in the fading light. But I know I'm no saint, got scars that run deep, Just a sinner redeemed, promises I intend to keep.
