[Darkness] [One boot] STOMP. [Another] STOMP. [Low Appalachian male humming] Mmmmmm-mmm... Mmmmmm-mmm... [Handclap] CLAP. [Handclap] CLAP. [More voices join] Mmmmmm-mmm... Mmmmmm-mmm... [OLD OUTLAW] You sure about this? [COSMIC] Nope. [OLD OUTLAW] Good. [Silence] [COSMIC] Light it. [ENORMOUS BASS-DRUM IMPACT — like distant TNT] BOOOOM. [Upright bass enters] [Handclaps explode into rhythm] [COSMIC — RAP] Been too damn quiet For too damn long Whole room humming Like it knows something's wrong Walls ain't bad Walls did their job Kept the rain outside While I learned what I got But my shoulders got wider My plans got tall Funny thing happens When the man outgrows the wall [GANG] BREAK OUT! [COSMIC] Don't mean burn it down [GANG] BREAK OUT! [COSMIC] Got another place Across town [GANG] BREAK OUT! [COSMIC] Tell the boys Bring the truck around This container held me— But it can't Hold me now. [HANDCLAP CHORUS] CLAP — CLAP BREAK OUT! STOMP — STOMP BREAK OUT! If the room Ain't big enough Don't make yourself Small enough BREAK OUT! CLAP — CLAP BREAK OUT! Old door New route I ain't running From the life I built— I'm bringing The whole damn thing OUT. [Banjo] [Shamisen answers] [VERSE 2] Got somebody On the other side Third-floor window County line She said— "You really coming?" I said— "Look outside." [Resonator guitar] Truck's still running Moon hanging low Two shovels One rope And a radio She said— "You got a plan?" I said— "Better than that." She said— "What?" [COSMIC] I got somewhere For us to go. [SUB] See— Breaking somebody out Ain't freedom If outside You got nowhere To sleep Nothing built Nothing ready Just another promise You can't keep So I built the second place Before I touched the first wall Made the room Made the road Made damn sure It could hold us all [OLD OUTLAW] That's the difference. [COSMIC] Between what? [OLD OUTLAW] Escape... And expansion. [CLAP] [CHORUS] BREAK OUT! CLAP — CLAP BREAK OUT! STOMP — STOMP BREAK OUT! When the old life Gets too small Don't curse the room Thank the walls BREAK OUT! CLAP — CLAP BREAK OUT! More room More sound I ain't blowing up My whole damn life— I'm blowing The LIMIT OUT. [BASS DRUM] BOOM. [Upright bass solo] [VERSE 3 — RAP] Quiet don't mean Nothing's moving Winter don't mean Roots ain't choosing Still water Deep underneath Whole damn mountain Sitting on heat Everybody watching The numbers stay flat Watching the door Like— "Is that it? That's that?" Nah. Some things grow loud Some things grow deep Some things spend A whole damn season Looking asleep Then— Crack. One customer Turns ten One song Finds a thousand friends One little room Needs another wing One little stream Turns into a thing Money ain't the meaning But money makes room More people More building More shit I can do I don't need A golden throne Give me ownership Give me options Give me somewhere To put the growth When the growth Starts knocking. [Beat cuts] KNOCK. KNOCK. [GANG] Who's there? [COSMIC] The next version. [GANG] How big? [COSMIC] Open the fucking door. [EXPLOSION / BASS DROP] [BRIDGE — humming returns] Mmmmmm-mmm... Mmmmmm-mmm... [COSMIC — sung] I used to think Breaking out Meant hating Where I'd been Now I know Some walls are good Until you grow Beyond them That little room Protected me While I learned To use my hands But gratitude Don't mean I gotta die Inside the plans Built for the man I used to be. [Humming] So here's to every container That held me Till it couldn't Here's to every door I thought I'd never walk through Here's to the quiet Here's to the wait Here's to building The next damn room Before you detonate. [CLAP] [COSMIC] Ready? [PARTNER] Been ready. [COSMIC] Then why you still inside? [PARTNER] Waiting on you. [COSMIC] Nah. [Silence] You got a key too. [HANDCLAP] [FINAL CHORUS — CELEBRATION] EVERYBODY: BREAK OUT! CLAP — CLAP BREAK OUT! STOMP — STOMP BREAK OUT! If your dream Outgrew the room That's not failure— THAT'S THE PROOF! BREAK OUT! CLAP — CLAP BREAK OUT! Whole damn mountain Hear us now We ain't running From the old life— WE JUST NEED MORE ROOM AROUND! [Banjo + shamisen trading] [COSMIC] More room For the music More room For the people More room For the money More room To give it More room For the questions More room For the strange More room For the man Who's still allowed To change [GANG] BREAK OUT! [COSMIC] Don't shrink the dream [GANG] BREAK OUT! [COSMIC] Build bigger beams [GANG] BREAK OUT! [COSMIC] If the old walls crack At the seams— [ALL] LET 'EM. [Massive stomp] [OUTRO] [Truck idling] [Handclaps continue] [PARTNER] So... What'd you blow up? [COSMIC] Nothing important. [PARTNER] Then what was that boom? [COSMIC] Bass drum. [Pause] [PARTNER laughs] Asshole. [COSMIC] Get in. [Handclap] [Handclap] [Humming] Mmmmmm-mmm... [END]
