First one showed up on the Delaney underpass, Big pink heart, kinda crooked, kinda fast, Everybody figured it'd get painted over by Tuesday — It's been three years, it's still there. Then the wall behind the bleachers where nobody goes, Then a little one, about yay big, on the mailbox outside a house that's got nothing to do with anything. Nobody saw 'em do it. Nobody's ever seen 'em do it. GRAFFITI HEARTS! All over this town! Pink and red and running down, On every wall this side of the tracks, Somebody's out there at two in the morning — GRAFFITI HEARTS! And nobody's asking who. Took us about a year to work it out, Two girls, and one of 'em works at the record store, Rings you up, sells you a Misfits reissue, Green paint under her fingernails and she does not care that you noticed. Other one's taller and does most of the climbing, Never seen 'em apart, not once, not ever, Cops know exactly who it is, and the cops do nothing, 'Cause honestly, what are you gonna do — it's hearts. Best-looking thing in this whole town and it's not on the map. GRAFFITI HEARTS! All over this town! Every single one. We checked. We drove around and checked. Except the one on Halloway. Nothing on it. Not a mark. Clean as the day they poured it, And it's the best one — flat, low, faces the road, You could see it from the highway. So we've got theories. Somebody said it's too close to the sheriff's. Somebody said the fence is new. Somebody said it's just too high to get down onto, Somebody said they probably just haven't got to it yet— Yeah, that's probably it.
