[Verse 1] The sailors send a message from the docks along the bay, The smugglers take their places as the night begins to sway. The captain’s with the merchant, deals are whispered in the dark, He doesn’t mind the cargo, but the dangers leave a mark. He unties all the anchors when the coastguard's fast asleep, And they sail away by sunrise with the bounty that they seek. And Long John Silver laughs and says it’s smooth as silk, It's smooth as silk, Smooth as silk. [Verse 2] The bankers crunching numbers as the market starts to climb, To hide a stash of money from the taxman on the line. They’re cashing out the figures when the lawman comes around, In and out of courtrooms with their faces all renowned. It’s funny how their lawyers always wear the same old frown, And meanwhile in the office, there’s a group of shady chaps, Who talk in hushed-up whispers ‘cause it’s smooth as silk. It's smooth as- Smooth as silk. [Verse 3] To change the scene a little, I’ve been hanging in the park, Watching my reflection in the ripples after dark. I fancy this, I fancy that, I wanna be top class, I throw a little wager, and I sip a little glass. But all I get is poorer, and a heavy, groggy mass, By the time I’m leaving, I’ve forgotten what’s the task. But everyone reminds me that it's smooth as silk, Smooth as- Smooth as silk. [Verse 4] I step into the nightclub where I think I’ll get a break, Chatting with the people, and they seem a little fake. I dance around in circles, trying hard to find my groove, Invited to the VIP, I think I’m in the move. She says she loves the nightlife, and she’s always on the run, I say, “I’ll see you later,” as I’m feeling rather flat. But it’s not like in the movies when it's smooth as silk, It's smooth as- Smooth as silk. [Outro] (Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
