The Cadillac is empty, just the scent of your perfume A silver shadow dancing in my lonely, silent room You came into my life just like a flash of secret light And then you disappeared into the darkness of the night Just like you always do... yeah, just like you always do. 'Cause you're a Velvet Comet, and I'm just a man on the ground Watching your beautiful tail as you leave this dusty town You were never meant to stay here, you were never meant to be mine Just a beautiful disaster, a fleeting, cosmic sign A Velvet Comet... gone too soon. I'm driving through the city, underneath the purple moon The radio is playing our forgotten, magic tune I'm talking to your ghost now, sitting in the passenger seat Just a phantom in a silk dress, tapping out the beat With her see-through feet... yeah, with her see-through feet. Ooh-ooh-ooh... gone too soon... I knew you were trouble... the moment I saw you... a beautiful, perfect trouble... Velvet Comet... fly on... My cosmic dancer... is gone... gone... gone... ...gone...
