Not By Our Hands

[Verse 1] We grew up on the stories of light You cleared the wild, gave us a place Not by our hands, not by our might Just by Your face turning our way [Pre-Chorus] Now the night hangs low and wide Dust on our lips, rain in our clothes We have not traded You for lies Still the arrows find us slow [Chorus] Rise up, wake up, don’t turn away Pull us from the flood and the fangs For Your steadfast love, carry us home Not by our hands, not by our hands [Verse 2] Neighbors grin while we go quiet Our names a joke on every street Yet our hearts keep the covenant Our feet don’t run to other feet [Pre-Chorus] We are counted like the flock Laid in the dirt, cold and still You know every breath we guard You have been our help and will [Chorus] Rise up, wake up, don’t turn away Pull us from the flood and the fangs For Your steadfast love, carry us home Not by our hands, not by our hands [Bridge] Why hide Your face from our sorrow? Lift the veil and meet our eyes Speak a word and dawn will follow Love that never quits, arise [Chorus] Rise up, wake up, don’t turn away Pull us from the flood and the fangs For Your steadfast love, carry us home Not by our hands, not by our hands [Outro] For Your love—lift us, lift us Not by our hands
