Everybody says I should love this place. Glass towers, fast trains, endless lights. Then why does my heart keep looking somewhere else? Morning pours silver across apartment walls, Traffic rivers flood beneath my feet, Screens glow louder than the waking birds, I move through crowds that never really meet, The sidewalks pull me into perfect lines, The skyline stretches like a cage of steel, My reflection wears a practiced smile, Something underneath it isn’t real. There’s a sound beneath the city noise, Something tugging at my soul. I hear distant thunder rolling through my veins, I feel green horizons calling out my name, Every breeze arriving from beyond the gray, Carries little secrets begging me to change, My heartbeat keeps running toward untamed skies, Like I belong where the sunlight climbs, Every part of me keeps reaching outside, Toward a place I haven’t found. Streetlights flicker like artificial stars, Concrete roots hold shadows in place, I keep sketching vines across my notebook pages, Drawing leaves around my face, Maybe I was meant for higher branches, Maybe I should dance above the ground, Like some wild creature laughing through a jungle, Instead of pacing circles all around. There’s a rhythm rising through my bones, Something says I should go. I swear I can almost hear it. Not with my ears. Somewhere deeper than that. Like the earth remembers me before I remember myself. Golden rivers rush behind my eyes, Mountains rise inside my mind, Rainfall paints a doorway in the sky, I can almost step inside. The wind writes promises across the trees, The sun spills fire over emerald seas, The world beyond these walls keeps calling me, Like it knows exactly who I’ll be, Every locked horizon starts opening wide, Every sleeping dream begins to come alive, I don’t want a window when I could fly, Toward the place that’s calling me.
