We see each other every day... but we hardly ever talk, We make up our minds... before we know the facts. You hear one thing about me... I hear one thing about you, And that's enough sometimes... to tell us what to do. We say we want respect... then forget to give it back, We say we want things better... but keep doing what we know. Everybody sees the problem... everybody has a view, But changing how we treat each other... starts with me and you. We don't have to think alike... We don't have to agree... But I should be able to hear you... And you should be able to hear me. Why can't we live... together as one? We can see things differently... and still get along. Why can't we stand... together as one? I don't have to be like you... and you don't have to be like me. The colour of your skin... doesn't tell me who you are, And where you grew up... doesn't tell me where you'll go. We all bring our own story... we all see things our way, But none of that gives me... a reason to turn away. You can disagree with me... without making me your enemy, I can disagree with you... and still respect you. We don't need to win... every time we talk, Sometimes listening first... is the better place to start. We don't have to think alike... We don't have to agree... But I should be able to hear you... And you should be able to hear me. Why can't we live... together as one? We can see things differently... and still get along. Why can't we stand... together as one? I don't have to be like you... and you don't have to be like me. Look at the kids around us... they're taking it all in, They hear what we say... and they see what we do. If we want them to do better... then we have to show them, Not just tell them what to do... but show them something new. Why can't we live... together as one? We can see things differently... and still get along. Why can't we stand... together as one? I don't have to be like you... and you don't have to be like me. Together as one... without asking us to change, Together as one... without asking us to agree. If we can give each other room... maybe that's enough, You live your life... and I'll live mine with respect. You don't have to be like me... I don't have to be like you... We can still stand together... Together... as one.
