FORGIVE THEM You & Him — A Conversation Verse 1 — Me I said, “How do I forgive them for the things they put me through? They knew exactly where it hurt, so tell me, how could they not know too? They watched me break, they heard my cries, they saw the damage done, So don’t tell me to forgive them like the battle never begun.” Verse 2 — Him He said, “Forgive them for they know not what they do, Not because their wounds were right, but because they wounded you. Some people act from places they refuse to understand, And sometimes hurting someone else is all they think they can.” Verse 3 — Me I said, “But what about the nights I cried and nobody came? What about the little girl who learned to swallow all her pain? What about the promises they made, then broke them like a lie? How do I forgive the ones who taught my heart to hide?” Verse 4 — Him He said, “Forgiveness isn’t saying that their actions weren’t wrong, It isn’t handing back your power or pretending you were strong. It doesn’t mean you trust them, and it doesn’t mean they stay— Sometimes forgiveness simply means you stop letting them have your day.” Chorus — Both Forgive them, for they know not what they do, Release what they did, but don’t erase what you’ve been through. You don’t have to call it right, you don’t have to call it true, Just free your heart from carrying what never belonged to you. Forgive them—not for them, but for you. Verse 5 — Me I said, “So forgiveness doesn’t mean I have to let them back? Doesn’t mean I owe them love for everything they lacked? Can I forgive from far away and still protect my peace? Can I close the door without becoming what they made of me?” Verse 6 — Him He said, “Yes, child, forgiveness can still come with a boundary line, You can love somebody’s soul and leave their chaos behind. Mercy doesn’t cancel wisdom, and grace don’t make you blind, You can wish them healing while choosing your own life.” Verse 7 — Me I said, “Then maybe I can finally lay this anger down, Not because they deserve it, but because I won’t let it keep me bound. I’ll remember what it taught me without becoming what they were, I’ll turn the scars into a language only I can translate into words.” Verse 8 — Him He said, “That’s where your freedom starts—the moment you decide, Their choices don’t define you, and their darkness isn’t yours to hide. You survived what should have broken you; now let your spirit breathe, Forgiveness isn’t weakness, child—it’s choosing to be free.” Verse 9 — Both So I said, “I forgive them, though I’ll never call the wrong okay.” He said, “That’s wisdom—you can heal without forgetting yesterday.” I said, “I’ll carry every lesson, but I won’t carry every bruise.” He said, “Then walk into tomorrow with the life you get to choose.” And together we whispered, as the old pain finally withdrew: “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
