It’s Not the End of the World… Or Is It? (Metal Jazz Edition)
Ooh... Is it really the end of the world? I said to my brother over coffee I don't remember things this bad Everybody seems to hate somebody Everybody thinks the world's gone mad The news starts screaming every morning Before I've even left my bed Some stranger somewhere on the internet Knows exactly how we're all gonna end He just smiled and stirred his coffee Like he'd heard it all before Then he said, Civilization Has been dying since the dinosaurs It's not the end of the world Or is it? I honestly can't tell anymore Maybe we're standing on the edge Maybe we've stood right here before It's not the end of the world Or is it? We've survived worse, or so they say Maybe the world was always broken We just watch it break all day I said, People used to get along At least that's how I remember it He said, Romans killed each other While a crowd applauded every bit Greeks had wars and kings had wars The Vikings weren't exactly nice And half of medieval Europe Thought that bathing came at quite a price I said, That's ancient history He said, Exactly, that's the point Every generation thinks it's watching The last one finally wreck the joint It's not the end of the world Or is it? I honestly can't tell anymore Maybe we're standing on the edge Maybe we've stood right here before It's not the end of the world Or is it? Maybe chaos is the human way We've been predicting Armageddon Since somebody learned to say The end is near Remember when we were children And thought the world was mostly sane? We had a house, a lawn, two parents And barely noticed other people's pain We went to school and came home safely Watched television after dark We thought the world was built to last Because we'd only seen our little part Maybe we were in a bubble Maybe we just didn't know Every crack was already underneath us We were too young to watch it grow Maybe every generation Looks around and asks what's wrong Then discovers civilization Has been limping right along Right along... Somehow... Now my phone can bring me every crisis Before I've even faced the day Wars and fires, rage and panic Delivered while my coffee's on the way I can watch a war in real time Argue with a stranger miles away We move the line, we change the answer And keep refreshing anyway My brother said, Put down the phone Go outside and take a walk I said, That's actually good advice He said, It was Until you started to talk It's not the end of the world Or is it? I guess we'll never really know Maybe we're standing on the edge Maybe we've been here all along It's not the end of the world Or is it? Take a breath and take it day by day Maybe that's just what we call history When we're lucky enough to stay It's not the end It's not the end It's not the end of the world Or is it? I said, You really think we're gonna make it? He said, We've made it this far I said, That's not very reassuring He said... No But apparently That's how we got here Probably
