THE EMPTY CHAIR DRINKS COFFEE TOO Pinoks Vibes Every morning at six, the kettle still whistles while the bacon sizzles The old dog still scratches sounding like the front door latches The sun still slips through the kitchen window drips And I still make two cups of coffee smelling like sugar burnt toffee. Even though there's only one of us left...life's theft --- Funny thing about losing someone... the world doesn't stop for no one The birds still sing. The clock still ticks. The memories still arrive...keeping you alive And somehow you're expected to survive like half your heart didn't walk out the yard. --- That chair sits right there. Across from mine while i stare. Same place it's been for more years than I can count to bare. The paint's worn thin. The cushion's gone to the bin. And every morning I catch myself looking up like you're about to say something you made up. --- The old dog still watches it too. Every time I pour that second cup for you. His ears lift. His tail taps once. And for a second I think he remembers the sound of your voice while watching the embers better than I do...i really want to. --- The empty chair drinks coffee too. Not because someone's sitting there. Not because I don't care I want you walking through that door. But because some habits I know is no more and some are stronger than a lions roar. Some love Just fit like a fine stitched glove. --- I still tell you things. The weather. The price of fuel. What the neighbors are up to with that crazy mule The funny thing the dog did yesterday. And sometimes... I even laugh while i pray. Then catch myself turning toward your chair and my heart burning. Like you've got a punchline waiting starting us debating. --- People think grief comes like a storm. Truth is... sometimes it comes like a coffee cup in form. An empty chair. A song on the radio. A smell in the hallway...i hear things you don't say Small things. Quiet things. Things nobody else brings. --- The empty chair drinks coffee too. Every sunrise. Every winter morning surprise Every birthday. Every weekday. Every ordinary shade of grey that somehow still feels different in every way without you here...the most i fear. --- One day maybe I'll only make one cup. Maybe the ache will give me n break. Maybe the dog will stop looking through the fog. Maybe. But not today. --- Today the kettle whistles. The bacon sizzles. The dog lays by the door and snore The sun finds the kitchen window. And I pour two cups of coffee...smelling like burnt sugar toffee One for me. And one for you for the love that never really left so true. --- The empty chair drinks coffee too. And somehow... that helps me get through another day or two 🎤 Pinoks Vibes
