When I released the very first song back in January, I honestly never imagined I’d actually be able to finish it all (lol) The only reason I was able to keep going until the end was because of everyone who listened and supported these songs. Thank you all so much for staying with me through this entire journey ♪ The following may be a bit unnecessary, but… I wanted to write down some thoughts I had while looking back on Yoru’s life. Please feel free to read only if you’re interested! Looking back on Yoru’s story… I think, in the end, it may have been a story about family. It began with losing her family, then moved through the pseudo-family she found among the bandits… and eventually led her toward gaining a true family of her own. Connected to that was also the theme of confronting revenge. Though honestly, I sometimes feel I could have explored that aspect a little more deeply. In reality, once Yoru failed to clearly see the face of the person who killed her family, revenge itself had already become almost impossible. But the reason she was ultimately able to overcome her hatred… was, once again, because of family. It wasn’t that her hatred disappeared completely. Rather, the happiness of having a new family filled her heart more strongly than that hatred ever could. The sorrow of losing a family was healed through gaining a new family and a place to belong. When you put it like that, it almost sounds like brute force rather than a true solution… and maybe, in some ways, it wasn’t a perfect answer. But there was one more important thing here: the words spoken to her by her mother, the bandit chief, and the old man. “You must live.” “Live a normal life.” “Seeing Yoru become happy is what makes me happiest.” All three of them were telling her to look toward the future. And all three wished for Yoru to become happy. “Hope for the future” and “the love of family”… I know those phrases may sound cliché when written out like this. But those were exactly the things Yoru needed back then. At the beginning of her life among the bandits, she used to say things like: “If I can avenge them, I don’t care if I die afterward.” And yet by the end, she was able to say: “I want to become like my father.” “I want to help fulfill my master’s dream.” I truly believe I’ve been blessed with wonderful people around me. And another important part was how Yoru confronted her own heart through training at the dojo. At first, she was shaken by the intensity of her hatred for revenge. But eventually, she became able to calmly acknowledge that hatred as part of her true feelings. And after accepting that… she also came to believe that she herself deserved happiness too. In that sense, the part where she realizes her romantic feelings may have been more important than it first seemed. The original text and songs made those scenes a bit comedic at times… but looking at it another way, that simply means she had become able to genuinely enjoy the life she was living ♪ Though honestly… I do wish there had been a few more romantic moments between her and the master. Another thing that stayed in my mind was the line where Yoru says to the old man: “I’ve received so many things from you.” In that scene, she was obviously speaking about the old man. But in Yoru’s heart, she was also thinking about her real parents, her younger sister, the bandits, the townspeople… and her master as well. “I’ve received so much from everyone… but what have I ever been able to give back?” I think that’s something I myself am still asking, even now. And then the old man told her that simply seeing Yoru become happy was enough for him. “Yoru becoming happy is itself a form of repayment.” I think that’s an important thing people often forget. By becoming happy, she repays the old man, her master… and even the bandits and her family. By living happily, she honors their feelings and the love they gave her. And so, instead of using her life for revenge, she chose to use it for herself and for the people she loves. I think that was the answer Yoru found back then… …and also the lesson I gained through re-experiencing her story. To conclude, I’d like to borrow a line from another song: “It gently taught me that the answer I had been searching for was right here… Resetting the sadness.” Once again, thank you so much for listening all the way to the end! May today and tomorrow be wonderful days for all of you. And may a lasting happiness find its way into your lives ♪
