Verse 1 Are these stories here to help me remember, Ancient truths carried through time? Are they history written in stone, Or poetry dressed as divine? Do I read every word as a record, Every wonder exactly as told? Or search for the meaning beneath it— The truth that the symbols may hold? Pre-Chorus Maybe a story doesn’t need To happen exactly as written To open our eyes, reshape our lives, Or show us what we’ve been missing. Chorus Stories and parables, riddles and signs, Windows to wisdom from faraway times. Do I take them literally, Or read them symbolically? Could they be “true lies”— Fictions that help us see? Stories and parables, passed down to me— What kind of truth are they asking me to believe? Verse 2 A serpent speaks in Eden, And humanity suffers the fall. Was there one tree in one garden, With consequences carried by all? Noah builds an ark for the floodwater, Two of each creature survive. Did the whole world drown beneath it, Or does hope keep the story alive? Pre-Chorus Maybe the point is not the weather, Or counting animals two by two. Maybe the story holds a mirror And asks what faithfulness will do. Chorus Stories and parables, riddles and signs, Windows to wisdom from faraway times. Do I take them literally, Or read them symbolically? Could they be “true lies”— Fictions that help us see? Stories and parables, passed down to me— What kind of truth are they asking me to believe? Verse 3 Jonah runs from his calling, Then lives in the belly of a whale. Was he breathing three days in darkness, Or is that not the point of the tale? Can a myth carry wisdom, Can a legend still illuminate? Can a story speak truth to a child Without asking an adult to abandon debate? Bridge Why do so many grown adults Insist every detail must be real? Does questioning threaten the message, Or deepen the truth we feel? If metaphor makes it less sacred, Then what do the parables mean? Jesus taught through invented stories— And truth still lived in every scene. Breakdown The Good Samaritan—did he have a name? Did the prodigal son truly walk that road? Must every character have existed For the deeper truth to be known? Maybe facts tell us what once happened, While stories reveal who we are. One gives us dates and places— The other can carry us far. Final Chorus Stories and parables, riddles and signs, Humanity’s questions surviving through time. I don’t have to fear the mystery Or force every word into history. They may be “true lies”— Fictions that help us see. Stories and parables, handed down to me— I’ll search for the wisdom Without surrendering reality. Outro Are these stories here to help me remember? Perhaps that’s what stories do— They may not all be literally factual, Yet still reveal something true.
