[Verse 1] The library reopened Tuesday With a fresh coat on the door I took my niece to see the shelves And the mural on the floor She had her first card in her pocket With her name in careful print She marched it past the checkout desk And gave the woman there a grin [Chorus] Library card parade Down the aisle and through the page One small name, a thousand roads Inside the books we get to hold Stamp the date and turn the leaf Bring the stories home with me Library card parade Let the next good chapter start today [Verse 2] She chose a book about a tailor Who could sew a kite from rain I found a guide to growing herbs And one on fixing window frames We sat beneath the painted planets Till the clock said half past four Then balanced all our borrowed worlds Like treasure through the sliding door [Chorus] Library card parade Down the aisle and through the page One small name, a thousand roads Inside the books we get to hold Stamp the date and turn the leaf Bring the stories home with me Library card parade Let the next good chapter start today [Instrumental - mandolin and fiddle, eight bars] [Bridge] At supper she explained the tailor And asked if rain could really sew I said, tomorrow we can try it With the blue cloth down below [Final Chorus] Library card parade Down the aisle and through the page One small name, a thousand roads Inside the books we get to hold Stamp the date and turn the leaf Bring the stories home with me Library card parade We're due back soon, and that's okay [Outro] She laid her card beside the lamp So we'd remember where to go.
