In the center of it all, an accordion player throws himself into the moment, coat swinging as he plays with wild, reckless energy. Above him, umbrellas drift through the sky, caught between the buildings as though the storm has forgotten which way is down. People lean from balconies and windows to watch. Others hurry through the alley below, while a few have stopped completely, staring at the strange spectacle overhead. Rain glitters across the cobblestones, streetlights reflect in every puddle, and the whole city seems to have tilted sideways for one wonderfully ridiculous moment. Nobody knows how the umbrellas got there. Nobody seems particularly concerned. The night keeps moving. And somewhere down the alley, the accordion keeps playing.
