Verse 1 Dad, where did you go? Did you ride that midnight train? Did you cross through fields of silence Standing in the pouring rain? Did the rails keep pulling forward Past the places we once knew? Or are you still out there somewhere Waiting for me, too? Pre-Chorus I hear your voice inside the thunder Calling softly through the rain Like a lantern in the distance Leading me beyond the pain Chorus Dad, where did you go? I could use you right now Are you dancing in the rain Trying to figure it out somehow? If you’re lost inside the storm And the night won’t let you see Follow the lantern, Dad Follow the light back to me Verse 2 Was it someone you believed in Who told you walk away? Did they say your dreams were over That tomorrow wasn’t yours to claim? Did you carry all that heartache Like a storm you couldn’t tame? Leaving thunder in your footsteps And a sky of purple rain Pre-Chorus Every night I hear the silence Every day I speak your name But the lantern keeps on shining Calling through the rain Chorus (Full Orchestra) Dad, where did you go? I could use you right now Are you dancing in the rain Trying to figure it out somehow? If you’re lost inside the storm And the night won’t let you see Follow the lantern, Dad Follow the light back to me Bridge (Choir & Strings) Through the thunder Through the rain Through the darkness Through the pain If you see that lantern glow You’ll always find your way back home Final Chorus Dad, where did you go? I could use you right now Are you walking through the rain Trying to heal somehow? If you’re lost out in the storm And the night won’t let you see Follow the lantern, Dad Follow the light back to me Outro (Soft Piano) Through the darkness… Through the rain… I’ll keep the lantern burning Until you find your way home again.
