The Road Already Taken

V4.5-ALL

[Narrator, male, warm storyteller] Morning broke above Catnatic’s walls, With banners still half-furled. The echoes of their victory Still lingering through the world. But roads do not remain in halls, And songs do not stay still. So heroes turned their gaze ahead Toward distant rising hills. [Heroes, male group, triumphant but now rhythmic] Forward now! The path is shown! The symbols mark the way! The world itself has drawn the route We follow without delay! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] The music changed with marching steps, The bodhrán found a beat. No longer feast and celebration, Now dust beneath their feet. The fiddle sharpened into pace, The whistle took a line— Like something older underneath Was trying to define. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] That sign says “farm road access.” [Heroes, male group, chanting-like response] A FARM OF TRIALS BEGINS! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] The sign was plain: a painted board, A fork in road and lane. A sketch of fields and town ahead With labels clear and plain. Steve slowed a step, still pointing out The words carved into wood. But meaning shifted in their minds The way all prophecy should. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It literally says “do not enter fields.” [Heroes, male group, rhythmic chant] A FIELD SEA OF DESTINY! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] And now the chorus started growing Stronger than before. Less conversation, more response To something at the core. Where once they simply spoke their thoughts, Now rhythm took the lead— As if the road itself had learned To echo what they read. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] You’re reading pictures wrong again. [Heroes, male group, chanting] PICTURES NEVER LIE! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] They absolutely do. That’s what pictures are for. [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] A resting cat upon a sign, Beneath a painted tree. A simple symbol meant for rest And calm security. Steve paused. Then pointed with a sigh Of growing tiredness. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] That means “rest area.” [Heroes, male group, reverent chant grows softer, mystical tone creeping in] A SACRED PLACE OF REST BETWEEN WORLDS… [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It’s a bench. [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] The music subtly swelled again, Not louder—but more sure. As if each wrong interpretation Had started to mature. The road itself now felt less road And more like moving myth— Where every misread painted sign Came walking hand in shift. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] You dropped your map again. [Hero, male, confused but confident] A FRAGMENT OF THE ANCIENT PATH! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It’s got doodles on it. [Heroes, male group, chanting stronger] SACRED DOODLES OF GUIDANCE! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] And Steve at last fell into step, Not by belief or trust— But understanding that the road Did what the road must: adjust. If reason failed, if logic broke, If language lost its place… Then walking forward still remained The only winning case. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] I’m just going to follow you. [Heroes, male group, marching chant] FORWARD THROUGH THE SIGNS! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] This is definitely getting worse. [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] And so the rhythm carried them, From Catnatic’s open gate— Toward every picture misread wrong With growing sense of fate. The journey had begun anew, Not told, but rearranged— Where meaning wasn’t found at all… But confidently changed.
