FRANK 024 – England with Henry Clerval | Frankenstein

(Verse 1) They crossed the sea to England beneath a changing sky, While Henry watched the new world with wonder in his eye. He welcomed every village, each river, field and lane, While Victor bore a promise that tightened like a chain. (Verse 2) Through London’s crowded quarters and laboratories cold, He gathered hidden knowledge from methods new and old. His friend believed the journey had freed him from his gloom, Yet Victor sought the secrets to shape another doom. (Chorus) While Henry saw the country with happiness restored, His friend pursued a purpose he privately abhorred. One travelled towards wonder wherever roads might lead, The other towards creation compelled by fear and need. (Verse 3) They wandered north through England where ancient rivers flowed, Then Scotland opened widely beyond the travelled road. Henry spoke of learning and futures yet to find, While Victor heard the Creature like footsteps in his mind. (Verse 4) Each peaceful scene accused him beneath the northern light, For beauty could not banish the labour from his sight. He knew another body must answer to his vow, And every mile drew nearer the work awaiting now. (Chorus) While Henry saw the country with happiness restored, His friend pursued a purpose he privately abhorred. One travelled towards wonder wherever roads might lead, The other towards creation compelled by fear and need. (Bridge) Two friends moved through the kingdom but walked a different way, For Henry gathered memories while Victor counted each day. Behind his quiet answers the hidden bargain grew, And only he could reckon what keeping it might do. (Outro) At last the northern islands lay waiting through the rain, Where Victor meant to labour in solitude again. He left his faithful Henry before the final shore, And carried towards the darkness the knowledge gathered for.
