Middle C and Peppermint

V5.5

Tick, tack, goes the brass on the wall, Behind the heavy door, where the shadows grow tall... High on the leather bench, my small feet dangle down, Looking at the polished wood, cold and deep and brown, Two small hands, frozen in the air, The teacher points a finger to the empty middle there, Don't you be afraid, little hands, let it ring... One breath held, touching the white ivory bone, A tiny little push, in the silence all alone... One little touch on the Middle C, The silent monster sets me free! Cold frozen thumbs start to warm and ignite, Spilling out eighty-eight rivers of light! Hop, skip, jump where the shadow used to stay, All of the trembling blown away! Do, Re, Mi, hop, two, three, jumping high! Up to the ceiling, up to the sky! Now the black keys don't look like an iron cage, Turning over secrets on a paper page, Left hand, right hand, chasing like two mice, Hitting a funny note, laughing out twice, Not a single scary thing left inside this chair... Look at the window, the sun is breaking through, Painting every note in gold and velvet blue, The ticking clock is singing, the teacher nods her head, Listen to the music flying overhead! ......Press, press the pe-dal, let the harmony soar, I'm never ever frightened of the room anymore! Eighty-eight keys are a golden train, Washing all the quiet right out of the rain! High notes dancing, spinning round the floor, Singing all the way out through the open door! Pocket full of peppermint, sidewalk in the sun, Two untied shoelaces on the run, Tapping every stone on the street, Do-Re-Mi... The whole wide world is in tune with me... Goodbye piano, see you next week!
