Dark Borderlands

+ Show full styles

On a dark quiet highway... the leather wheel was cold. I was chasing a shadow... for a crown of gold. Up ahead in the canyon... the chapel doors swung wide. I could hear the voices humming... from the ghost hidden inside. She stood out on the boardwalk... in a dress made of silk. Serving sweet silver poison... whiter than milk. She said, "Welcome to the high life... we’ve been waiting for years." And she washed away my memory... with a cup full of tears. Tear down the mirrors... let the cage break away. Leave the golden highway... for the break of day. You can shuffle your cards, you can deal your clever hands. But you can't trap a shadow... in the dark borderlands. There’s a vintage Mercedes... turning slowly to rust. And a line of dead switchboards... buried deep beneath the dust. I called out to the captain... "Bring the ghost to the feast." He said, "We haven't seen that spirit... since the war in the east." So I ran for the highway... just to look for the gate. But the voice in the shadow... whispered, "Son, you're too late." You can find your name... in the ledger on the floor. But you can never step... through that old chapel door. Tear down the mirrors... let the cage break away! Leave the golden highway! for the break of day! You can shuffle your cards, you can deal your clever hands! But you can't trap a shadow... in the dark borderlands!
