[Verse 1] Pulled up to the gate at dusk Black bag, no trust Client said, “Handle the nest” In the back, blue huts in the brush Tiny doors, mushroom roof Little footprints in the dirt I seen a whole village breathe Like it knew I came to work Screen door creak, yellow gloves Mask on, mouth gone Clipboard full of dead-eyed notes And a name I couldn’t put on Old man pointed past the hedge Said, “They been here too long” I looked out over that garden town And the whole yard felt wrong [Pre-Chorus] I don’t ask twice I just take the load One fog, one sweep Then I’m out that road No noise, no trace Keep the money clean If it’s blue in the grass It ain’t my scene [Chorus] Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now I make the whole block hush Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now One can, one pass Then the whole thing locked down [Verse 2] Started low through the cabbages Crawled through the beans Seen them little hard hats Run between the leaves They was yelling in their language Like they knew the score One shook a rake like a pistol At the screen door I kept it business, kept it cold No love in the play Just a paid man in the yard At the end of the day Trap of smoke in the bushes Fence line full of fear Every time I moved my boots They froze in the clear Then the dog in the yard barked once And the whole gang dipped Blue caps in the compost pile Like coins that slipped [Pre-Chorus] I don’t ask twice I just take the load One fog, one sweep Then I’m out that road No noise, no trace Keep the money clean If it’s blue in the grass It ain’t my scene [Chorus] Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now I make the whole block hush Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now One can, one pass Then the whole thing locked down [Bridge] Client at the window, sweating Counting every shape Me, I’m in the hedges Watching the shadows shake Found one last lantern glowing By a cracked red pail I stood there, stone-faced Let the silence tell Then the wind cut hard Through the backyard maze And the blue little town Went up in a haze [Chorus] Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now I make the whole block hush Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now Blue house, gone now One can, one pass Then the whole thing locked down
