Feedback Is a Monster

Verse 1 I came to roll some funny dice, to laugh and share a tale, A room of bards in sparkled clothes with courage dressed in veil. The dragon wasn't breathing fire, the lich wasn't the threat, The final boss was something that I hadn't noticed yet. The night was full of strange ideas, some landed, some fell flat, We all survived, we packed our things, and that was mostly that. But driving home I thought, "Perhaps a few thoughts might help next time." I never guessed that honest words could be mistaken for a crime. Pre-Chorus I sharpened every sentence, but I blunted every blade. I thought I built a bridge— They thought I built a grenade. Chorus 'Cause feedback is a monster, it hides where no one sees. It wears the face of kindness, then drops folks to their knees. A dragon's easy fighting, at least it roars before it bites. But feedback is a monster... That hunts on quiet nights. Verse 2 I spoke of pacing, character hooks, and giving players clues, A cheat sheet for the heroes and a couple different views. A rival troupe, a louder stage, a crowd to win or lose— Just little thoughts from one old bard who'd walked in someone else's shoes. But somewhere in the reading, every "maybe" turned to law, Every "what if" sounded like a list of fatal flaws. The message left my outbox as a handshake in good faith; It reached the other shoreline wearing someone else's face. Pre-Chorus The words all rolled as Persuasion, The table called Intimidation. Chorus 'Cause feedback is a monster, it changes shape and name. It feeds on good intentions and confusion all the same. You can slay a vampire, you can break a cursed spell. But feedback is a monster... That rolls its saves too well. Bridge Maybe every storyteller hears a different tune. Maybe every audience lives beneath another moon. Maybe every mirror bends a little when we're sore. Maybe what I meant to mend just looked like something more. So here's to every table where the dice still freely fall, Where "I liked this, here's one idea" doesn't start a brawl. Where criticism isn't doom, and praise needn't be fake— Where artists build each other up, one awkward note at stake. Final Chorus 'Cause feedback is a monster, but monsters can be named. Sometimes they're made of fear instead of malice or of blame. So here's another campfire, another game to try. The stories keep on rolling long after hard goodbyes. The dice will find new tables. The bards will find new songs. No single voice can keep the music Silent for too long. Outro The dragon never scared me. The lich let me be. But the toughest thing I ever fought... Was what somebody heard from me.
