[Intro – Sänger ruft ins Mikro] "Alright now — I’ve been gone too long! I’m headin’ back — BACK TO THE ROOTS, baby!" [Verse 1] I packed my soul in a suitcase bag Been runnin’ wild with a worn-out flag But the fire still burns in my ol’ hometown So I’m rollin’ fast, can’t slow me down! [Chorus] Back to the roots — I hear the sound! Back to the roots — I’m homeward bound! Can’t stop the train, can’t change the boots, I’m goin’ full steam — back to the roots! [Verse 2] I played the clubs and I played the fools Slept on floors and broke the rules But the blues still call me through the wire Now my heart’s on fire — takin’ me higher! [Call & Response] "Where am I goin’?" "Back to the roots!" "Say it louder!" "BACK TO THE ROOTS!" [Bridge – langsam runter, dann wieder hoch] I took the long way round, I paid the dues But now I’m flyin’ with my old worn shoes Turn me loose — I can’t refuse This ride back down the rockin’ blues! [Final Chorus – Maximum Speed!] Back to the roots — I hear the sound! Back to the roots — I’m homeward bound! Stomp that beat, cut all suits! I’m alive and wild — back to the roots!
