[be my steady] [Intro – Soft doo-wop harmonies] Shoo-bop, shoo-bop… Doo-wah, doo-wah… [verse] I walked into the malt shop on a Friday night, Saw a girl in a poodle skirt, oh what a sight, She sat there at the counter, soft and bright as day, And with one gentle smile, she stole my heart away. [Verse 2] I bought her a cherry soda just to hear her speak, Her gentle voice made my knees feel weak. We listened to the jukebox while the evening flew, And every second told me that our love was true. [Chorus] Oh sweetheart, be my steady, be my one and only true, be my steady, be my one and only true. Under the stars tonight, baby, I'm falling for you. (Doo-wop, doo-wop) whisper you'll be mine, And our love will shine for all of time. Doo-wop, doo-wop. Doo-wah, doo-wah… [verse] I asked her for a dance while the jukebox played, She said "yes" so eagerly, all my worries fade. We twirled around slowly beneath the diner lights, And I knew right then, baby, you'll be mine tonight. [verse] This kind of magic will never ever end. Forever in her arms, my heart will always mend. We'll go steady forever, that's my solemn vow, (doo-wop, doo-wop,) I love you here and now. [Chorus] Oh sweetheart, be my steady, be my one and only true, be my steady, be my one and only true. Under the stars tonight, baby, I'm falling for you. (Doo-wop, doo-wop,) whisper you'll be mine, And our love will shine for all of time. Doo-wop, doo-wop. Doo-wah, doo-wah… [instrumental break] [final Chorus] Oh sweetheart, be my steady, be my one and only true, be my steady, be my one and only true. Under the stars tonight, baby, I'm falling for you, (Doo-wop, doo-wop) whisper you'll be mine, And our love will shine for all of time. Doo-wop, doo-wop, Doo-wah, doo-wah, Shoo-bop, shoo-bop Doo-wah, doo-doo-wah… [fade out]
