[Pedal steel guitar intro] [Verse 1] My name is Billy And I was born In an old holler in eastern Kentucky And No I've never been to war I was too young for Vietnam And now I'm too old for desert storm I've got a small place in the hills With a wife A dog And a little corn still And you may find this hard to believe But it's true As sure as you're lookin' at me [Chorus] I ain't never killed a man I ain't never done the things you think I have And it ain't never been my plan To be what I am But I guess that's just the hand I drew It's true And if you only knew My name is Billy [Verse 2] And I got family in the South In Mississippi They never asked me what it's about And the good book says "You shouldn't steal" But there's a whole lotta money up north and a whole lotta hungry mouths down here And that's real [Chorus] But I ain't never killed a man I ain't never done the things you think I have And it ain't never been my plan To be what I am But I guess that's just the hand I drew It's true And if you only knew My name is Billy [Bridge] And there's no reason you should believe me And the folks that need me Well They're the ones that feed me But one day I'm gonna get caught And they'll ask me my name And I'll say "It ain't my fault"
