He Broke My Bed, I Broke His Jaw

Grimy swamp-delta blues with female vocals dripping attitude; overdriven slide guitar riff, loose hi-hat shuffle, and a crooked upright bass groove, Verses stay low, half-spoken, with grit and smirk; chorus opens up with shouted gang vocals, stomps, and claps, Harmonica interjections answer vocal lines, with a short, nasty slide solo before the final hook, delta blues, female vocals

[Verse 1] He broke my bed Legs snapped Like his promises did Springs screaming at midnight Yeah The whole frame quit Boots on my floorboards Mud on my prayer rug Mouth full of sweet talk Hands like a loaded slug [Chorus] He broke my bed so I broke his jaw Laid him out flat on the kitchen floor Mama raised a lady with a razor in her drawl He broke my bed so I broke his jaw [Verse 2] He laughed at the damage Called it "roughhouse fun" Til I saw that red flag Same color as his gums [low vocal register] One hard right Coffee cup flew Teeth on tile Like cheap pearls loose [Chorus] [Bridge] [whispered vocals] Sheriff at the front porch Asked "Girl What went down?" I said "House needed fixing And I just took out the clown" [growled ad-lib] He can sip his soup Through a crooked straw Maybe next time Baby He'll read the room Before he tests my law [Chorus]
