The Lonely Spud #BeneathTheRedBalloon

Irish folk, acoustic guitar, violin, somber, emotional, female vocal

V4.5-ALL

[Verse]
Beneath the soil where dreams don’t sprout
A lonely spud was left without
A hand to hold
A place to stay
Cold as the earth at the end of day

[Pre-Chorus]
But a lass with hope and a pot of clay
Took it home where the red balloon swayed

[Chorus]
A kind lass came
With a gentle hand
Took the lonely spud from the frozen land
Planted it in a pot
Under the red balloon
Hummed a tune
Hummed a tune

[Post-Chorus]
Oh little spud
You won’t grow tall
No roots to climb
No vines to sprawl
But here you sit in the warmth of the room
Under the watch of the red balloon

[Instrumental Interlude]

[Verse 2]
She whispered tales of the golden sun
Of fields that danced and rivers that run
The spud just stared with a wrinkled eye
No bloom to give
No dreams to try

[Bridge]
Life isn’t fair
The lass would hum
Some seeds will sleep
They’ll never become
But love’s not bound by what you give
Sometimes it’s enough to simply live

[Pre-Chorus]
A lass with hope and a pot of clay
Took it home where the red balloon swayed

[Chorus]
Oh potato
Oh potato
Don’t you cry
She gave you a pot
She gave you her why
Under the red balloon
You'll learn to sigh

[Post-Chorus]
Oh little spud
You won’t grow tall
No roots to climb
No vines to sprawl
But here you sit in the warmth of the room
Under the watch of the red balloon

[Instrumental Interlude]

[Outro]
Roots won’t take
Dreams won't stay
A gentle touch
But you fade away
Under the red balloon
Spud will wither away
