Track 30. SOLOMON - "The Wisest King"

Verse 1:
"Ask what you will," God said in dreams,
"And I will grant your plea,"
The young king didn't ask for wealth,
Or long life, victory.
"Give me wisdom to discern,
To judge Your people right,"
And God was pleased with his request,
That sacrificial night. Chorus:
The wisest king who ever reigned,
With understanding deep,
From every nation people came,
To hear the words he'd speak.
He built the temple for God's name,
With cedar, gold, and stone,
But wisdom couldn't save his heart,
When he turned from God alone. Verse 2:
Two mothers came with one live child,
Each claiming he was theirs,
"Divide the baby with a sword,"
He said to test who cares.
The real mother cried, "Give her the child!"
Her love revealed the truth,
And all of Israel stood in awe,
Of Solomon's wisdom in his youth. Chorus:
The wisest king who ever reigned,
With understanding deep,
From every nation people came,
To hear the words he'd speak.
He built the temple for God's name,
With cedar, gold, and stone,
But wisdom couldn't save his heart,
When he turned from God alone. Bridge:
Seven years to build the house,
Where God's glory came to dwell,
"I have heard your prayer," God said,
"If you obey Me well."
But foreign wives turned his heart away,
To gods of wood and stone,
And the kingdom would be torn apart,
For the sins that he had sown. Final Chorus:
The wisest king who ever reigned,
With understanding deep,
From every nation people came,
To hear the words he'd speak.
He built the temple for God's name,
With cedar, gold, and stone,
But wisdom couldn't guard his heart,
When he turned from God alone.
"Fear God and keep His commands,"
He'd write before the end,
The wisest king learned the hardest way,
On God we must depend.
