The Four Horses of Wisdom (Adults Version): Gallop into the CNY 2026 🐴
[Intro] Gong xi, gong xi, let’s all cheer, The year of the horse is finally here! We sing with joy, we sing with pride, And let the four good horses ride! [Verse 1] The Buddha told a tale one day, Of four fine horses on their way. The first horse moves before the pain, It sees the world and starts to train. [Chorus] Ride, ride, ride with heart, From kindness, wisdom always starts. Fast or slow, just do your best, The Dhamma leads to peace and rest. [Verse 2] The second horse needs words to see, That life is not just fun and free. It learns when others start to cry, And asks the truth behind the “why?” [Chorus] Ride, ride, ride with heart, From kindness, wisdom always starts. Fast or slow, just do your best, The Dhamma leads to peace and rest. [Verse 3] The third horse waits till it gets hurt, It falls down first before alert. But even then, it finds the way, And slowly grows from day to day. [Instrumental Break – gentle galloping, soft erhu melody] [Verse 4] The fourth horse waits till pain runs deep, Before it wakes from heavy sleep. But still it walks the path so bright, And learns to walk toward the light. [Bridge] So don’t compare, and don’t feel low, Each heart can learn, each mind can grow. The Buddha’s path is kind and true, And horse year brings that light to you! [Chorus] Ride, ride, ride with heart, From kindness, wisdom always starts. Big or small, come walk today, With peace and love, the MIDDLE WAY [Outro] Gong Xi Fa Chai, joy and cheer, Let’s walk with love throughout the year. Be like the horse that hears the call — May peace and wisdom bless us all. GONG XI FA CHAI! GONG XI FA CHAI! GONG XI FA CHAI! ☸️ Lyrics adapted from and inspired by Aṅguttara Nikāya 4.113 (Patoda Sutta: The Horse Trainer's Goad), expressed using modern and psychologically meaningful language.
