✍🏻 LYRICS & COMPOSITION BY EME LATINA (2026) ------------ ABOUT: ------------ Written for a friendly 1-word challenge, this is a song about life. I was given the word TIMELESS, and I expanded on it to include PERENNIAL, as I much like the analogy of plants, and both can be equal in definition. Perennial plants are the metaphor for the quiet persistence of life. The lyrics reflect on the idea that not everything visibly alive is truly gone during periods of darkness or stillness. Just like perennial plants disappear beneath the surface through winter only to return again, you can be something equally cyclical and enduring. Despite being shaped by hardship, or gone for periods of time, you are always capable of renewal. I wanted the idea of timelessness to suggest a deeper meditation on meaning and survival: that true permanence is not about never changing, but about continuing to return with purpose despite change, ruin, or loss. Even defeat becomes part of growth. The song ultimately frames this kind of resilience not as brash strength, but as the natural, patient act of continuing to live, adapt, and return again. ------------ LYRICS: ------------ i. I’m a perennial thing at the roots, waiting below ground; until I come back around. Snow on my shoulders, melting… I don’t look alive every season; but I'm here, just underneath, gathering green, for when the light is overhead... The world mistakes quiet endings ii. I am timeless, no matter the earth at my feet; in ruin, in perpetuity nature nurtures defeat, until it regains it's spring colors. I return, circular, expected; timelessness reelected, constant, like death. iii. Some winters lasted longer than the calendar said, but under all that absence, small hands of life had new soil laid— New life splitting marble the way it does, working thru the solitude I know stillness can be misleading... iv. I am timeless, no matter the earth at my feet; in ruin, in perpetuity nature nurtures defeat, until it regains it's spring colors. I return, circular, expected; timelessness reelected, constant, like death. v. To be timeless is to keep meaning, even as the world keeps spinning; to exist in the presence of change, as organically as one can, like perennial plants
