Superman!

If I could travel very fast, I’d quickly finish all my chores. Then help my friends, or those who asked, And still have time to spend outdoors. If I were blessed and very strong, In addition to my speed, I’d help, I’m sure, if things were wrong, For whoever had the need. And when I wanted to relax, I’d take to flight into the sky. Just my tights, I’d drop my slacks, Though many people wonder why. I’d clear tall buildings In just a single bound. Then land so hard the pavement cracks, Scaring kids when I hit the ground. Look! Up in the sky! Every citizen, every crook, Glance upward. Take a look! Oh my word! IT’S A BIRD!! IT’S A PLANE!! IT’S SUPERMAN!! He just smashed right through the door, But what were those first two excited for? A bird is nice, a plane is fine, But neither one should cause a fuss. Unless the bird is nine feet tall, Or planes are now chasing us. But still they shout with all their might, Like feathers and planes are news. Then Superman appears in sight, Still, that is no excuse. Every citizen, every crook, Glance upward. Take a look! Oh my word! IT’S A BIRD!! IT’S A PLANE!! IT’S SUPERMAN!! He just smashed right through the door, But what were those first two excited for? Maybe the crowd thought Hawkman flew, Or saw Wonder Woman’s plane. Now that I would understand, Not worried about their brain. Maybe the bird was wearing boots, Maybe the plane had human hair. Maybe the crowd just needed practice Pointing wildly in the air. But birds and planes on any day Should never make folks leap and roar. So Superman gets all the praise… The first two still confuse me more. Every citizen, every crook, Glance upward. Take a look! Oh my word! IT’S A BIRD!! IT’S A PLANE!! IT’S SUPERMAN!! He just smashed right through the door, But what were those first two excited for? UP! UP! AND AWAY!
