The gravity of eternity (redux)
Glass vials shimmer with borrowed suns, fingers ache from holding cold glass too long. The lab hums low, like something held in place, and every cure dissolves like smoke on water. Yet through the lens she still breathes the one result he can't write down. Together we will hold it forever, together we will hold it forever. In broken hands the spark is kept, a seed the dark cannot digest. He moves through wet leaves under a bleeding sky, roots pulling him deeper, drinking from distant stars. Mud on his skin, air thick with burning, sap too sweet and slow against his tongue. Bones of things he refused to leave behind, something warm still moves where nothing should. Together we will believe it forever, together we will believe it forever. From broken crowns the roots still rise, roots don't ask which way is up. Inside the bright, he drifts between shapes that don't hold is it space, or just his edges giving out? Shadows stitched to him like second skin, sap warm beneath, a memory not his own. Branches opening slow behind his ribs, his insides losing the agreement to stay whole. He slips out of himself, falling into her, into forever. Together we will live forever, together we will live forever. When the body goes, the warmth remains the grave can't teach the root to stay.
